The Anthropology Department

at Rhode Island College

is celebrating World Anthropology Day!

9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Gaige Hall (map)

There will be food, music, faculty research and hands-on activities for kids  including a "dig" where they can discover beads, coins and arrowheads, coloring and word search activities that introduce them to monkeys and apes, our fossil casts of human evolution will be on display and there will be associated coloring and word search activities, and there will be a project contrasting language symbols with emoticons.

On February 18, Anthropologists are talking about their work and organizing events and activities in Canada, Morocco, India, Egypt, Mexico, Tunisia, and Providence, Rhode Island.

It is a day for anthropologists to share their excitement about their discipline with the public around them. We advocate, translate and investigate.  So come over to Gaige Hall where we’ll be monkeying around, digging anthropology and talking e-trash!

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;  indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”                        Margaret Mead

World Anthropology Day is an initiative by the American Anthropological Association. Founded in 1902, the American Anthropological Association, with more than 10,000 members, is the world’s largest professional organization of anthropologists. The Association is dedicated to advancing human understanding and tackling the world’s

most pressing problems.

“Anthropology is the most humanistic of the sciences and the most scientific of the humanities.”                                                                           Alfred L. Kroeber
