Sanae Tashiro joined the faculty at Rhode Island College in 2010, having taught previously at Rowan University after completing a Post Doctoral Fellowship at the University of California, Davis. Professor Tashiro received her Ph.D. in economics from Claremont Graduate University in 2004, and her B.A. and M.A. in economics and statistics from the California State University, Los Angeles, in 1994 and 1996, respectively.


Her teaching interests focus on labor economics, public economics, and econometrics. She previously taught intermediate microeconomic theory, labor economics, public finance, and urban economics at Rowan University; labor economics, public microeconomics, and econometrics at the University of California, Davis; and principles of economics at Chaffy College. She teaches principles of macroeconomics and seminar in economic research in the 2022 Spring semester at Rhode Island College.


Her research interests lie in the areas of labor economics, public economics, the economics of race and gender, and applied econometrics. She is particularly interested in topics such as wage determination and income inequality, labor supply, population aging, the determinants of racial and gender wage differentials, and the impact of technological change on the labor market. She is currently working on research topics in the welfare programs and labor supply, wage determination and income inequality, fertility, the impact of technological change on the labor market, and labor market effects of population aging.
